October 2019
I certainly know the situations described in the first half of this article. The fear of refactoring. Or the problems with integrating a big feature branch after some time.
But what I’m missing in this article is how to work with features which change your data model in a big way, I have the feeling, that a feature toggle sounds easy in theory but creates quite some cost and complexity in the actual code.

A face made of water and other items from my desk.
I just started reading Other Minds: The Octopus and the Evolution of Intelligent Life by Peter Godfrey-Smith.📚
Review of Skyward
I finished reading Skyward: The Brand New Series by Brandon Sanderson.📚This book is so good; I could not stop reading it! The book tells the story of Spensa, the daughter of a fighter pilot. Her home is a desert planet in the distant future, and she belongs to a group of humans who crash-landed on this planet 2 Generations ago. She dreams of being a pilot, as well, but there are quite some obstacles for her to overcome. What a week
What a week, went to the hospital for the first time in my life - planned surgery and everting is fine - now I’m waiting up that everything heals again. And at work, we had release week. But somehow my customer got me on the wrong foot yesterday, and I have the feeling I could not help him in the way I would like, so now I’m dragging this thing into my weekend and cannot stop to think about it :-(
The sky this morning. Amazing colors, I’ve never seen it so purple.
Review of the Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, Book 1)
I just finished reading The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, Book 1) by Brandon Sanderson.📚This book is good, and the pages are just flying past me while reading. I like how the author describes the ever desperate live of Kaladin and how he always managed to go further. Then we have the opposite character trying to get a position as a ward with a famous researcher but only with the plan to betray her.I just started reading The Testaments: The Sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.📚

I cleaned up my network installation today.

Drawerception. Working on a design for my new wardrobe with additional storage. Big drawers with a lot of smaller drawers in it. Not yet sure if this idea will be viable.

Installing network cables.

Stumbled over this company last week, the product looks interesting, but again something cloud-based :-(. I’m thinking about using this product to do the voice-over of my videos.

⤑ Regex, Prologue: Grammar (via iOS Dev Weekly Issue 423).
I’ve not yet read the whole article, but the introduction sounds like a lot of fun. And some years past when I was reading a regex book, I was planning on doing the same actually but never made the time to do it.

Just saved the cat of our neighbors from the roof after it sitting on there for two days. And then found a small bird in the gutter - no idea how it got in there I did not see an entry point for it. Released it as well.
@V_ I’m learning about networking in my spare time (actually cyber security but you can’t learn one without the other. ) I’m not familiar with many of the components in the photos of your home network. What is what?

@Stevsmit On the lower left picture you see the NAS (black box on the left side) and the DSL Modem/Router (the red box). On the two pictures on the right side you see the Switch (Managed 8 Port PoE Switch from Ubiquiti). And the rest is just standart network wiring. I have a UTP Cable into most rooms. Let me know I you need more details.

@V_ that makes sense now. Thanks. Some things look different to what I’m used to. Nice organization
