November 2020

I just showed my daughter Swift Playgrounds. It looks like she is interested. I’ve known about this for quite some time but have not looked at it in detail. I would have loved to have such a resource back when I tried to learn to code!
I like having pedestrian zones; it makes for relaxing walking.

I spent yesterday trying to get doctors’ appointments – a task I’ve should have done a long time again. But somehow, this task filled my whole day, and in the end, I have nothing to show for it — apart from finally making the step and call.
I don’t understand why the system is so complicated and why I do need to dictate email addresses from other doctors via the phone so that my primary doctor can send a transfer note.
The system feels so broken and inefficient. I have the feeling that there should be a better solution, but I don’t have an idea right now.
Don’t forget your’re mask before going outside – otherwise, somebody could see your real self!

2020 causes a dilemma for many people. Is the job safe, should I meet my friends, should I go on a holiday?

I just received new scores to learn.
Experience and wisdom count for more than vast technical knowledge. And, in fact, I don’t have that knowledge, except in the few places where I need it. I know how to get technical knowledge, though. I look things up. I learn. I ask questions. I ask for help. Same as you!
I have these feelings as well, and it helps to know you are not alone. I like to understand how everything works, but I don’t have a profound knowledge of every programming language or feature. But sometimes, this feels like it is not good enough.

On Magic Systems (in Books)
I’m thinking a lot about magic systems in the last few days. I also realized that I like books with magic in general, but I like it way more when the author spends some time finding a unique, not run of the mill magic system for his world. The most important question to any magic system is how it is limited because a world where there is limitless power does not make for an exciting story.Review of Firstborn Academy: Shadow Reaper
I finished reading Firstborn Academy: Shadow Reaper by Isla Frost.📚 In the series last book, the academy survivors move to the frontlines of the war against the Malus. They are now soldiers and divided into multiple units. Can Nova fulfill the hope vested in here and destroy the Malus for good? Opinion Please note that from here on out, the text can contain spoilers of the book. The final book has two main points, experimenting with Nova’s ability and how to use it against the Malus. When the call to action is not visible enough, nobody will follow it.

Review of Firstborn Academy: Shadow Witch
I finished reading Firstborn Academy: Shadow Witch by Isla Frost.📚 Having passed the first three months of the academy, the Nova and her friends participate in a special transformation ritual. The ritual enhances the participants’ magic ability and, in seldom cases, also creates new and special wildcard powers. What power will Nova receive? And how will the rest of the world react to them? Opinion Please note that from here on out, the text can contain spoilers of the book.I’ve checked my provision multiple times before starting the hike. But still, I have the nagging feeling that I’ve forgotten half of the necessary items.

Back from the walk around the lake. Was surprised by the rain in the middle and got soaked, but otherwise, it was relaxing.
Sometimes, when I try to recreate a bug that does not look possible, it helps me take a step back to find the solution. Unfortunately, this is a skill I struggle with quite a lot.

So it looks like I’ve finally managed to write a short story that could be published. I need to sleep over it and edit the text again. But right now, I’m optimistic about it – and happy.
I say a lot to my child every day, but she receives only half of it. I expect this ratio to decline further as she gets older.

Review of Voice of Life (The Spoken Mage Book 4)
I finished reading Voice of Life (The Spoken Mage Book 4) by Melanie Cellier.📚 In the last issue of the series, the book expands the world quite a bit. After the kingdom got an offer for an alliance with the northern imperium, Elena and Lucas travel north to visit the potential new ally’s capital. Elena is not very happy about this development as it means she loses Lucas shortly after they found one another.I’m not looking forward to being elderly.

Review of Voice of Dominion (The Spoken Mage Book 3)
I lately finished reading Voice of Dominion (The Spoken Mage Book 3) by Melanie Cellier.📚 Elena is the only Spoken Mage so far, and she still needs to learn how to fight against the limitation of her magic. Compared to her class comrades, she needs a lot more energy as she cannot use stored compositions. And therefore cannot prepare her magic before a fight. The war with Kallorway is getting hotter by the day, so the third year is asked to go to the front lines.Mass times acceleration due to gravity equals force.

Sunday afternoon - I am working on my homepage.
I’m wondering if I should mark my reviews somehow as Spoilers? Usually, I try to keep the first part spoiler-free, but I cannot do this without spoilers as soon as I write about my opinion. I’m just not sure how to mark them. I would like not to use any more repetitive elements. And I’m not too fond of spoiler tags. Any opinions or ideas?
The printer finished printing, and now we bind the pages into a book.
