I’m playing around with Railway today. I’m not yet convinced I understand it. But I needed an alternative for hosting (active) projects now that Heroku has changes their prices.

@V_ I’m currently trying out Fly.io if that’s of any use to you. I like it so far, now that I kinda know what I’m doing. Was super easy to get started.

@vincent I've heard from them but it is a long time I last looked at it. And the pricing and setup looks a lot more straightforward compared to Railway. On the other hand Railway provides out of the Box addons for MongoDB so I don't need to host & setup them myself.

A small black device with two LED on top of a bus stop station sign. The station name is hidden. The device has a solar panel on top.

Found this interesting devices at at bus stop yesterday. It’s made by SeeUs. A device to indicate that the bus needs to stop at your station. Never seen it before, and think this is a good addition. Especially in the darker half of the year.

 

On my way to do some swimming. But the long pants were the wrong choice. It is way too warm outside now.

 

Just overheard on the Bus: An older person was talking about her school days and that the classes had 40 children in them.

I can’t imagine how you learn something in such a big group. I find our current max of 20 children already way too high.

Back at our wedding location for our obligatory wedding day celebration. Tomorrow it’s another year.

 

Experimented a bit with typesetting for an upcoming book binding project. Going from individual markdown files to a final pdf to print (via Pages). Looks like the simplest process so far and for a one off experiment perfect. Also found Bookbinder 3.0 to reorder the pdf for print.

@V_ oh man, gonna have to try bookbinder. Been really struggling to not lose formatting between my markdown editor and Affinity Publisher, but I didn’t know any other way to get the binding-ready PDF.

I hate it, when my computer just randomly fills the hard drive and I need to make a reboot to fix it. What I hate the most is that I don’t understand the reason for it.

I suspect a cache file or some sort of virtual memory but I’m not sure how to debug it. When I reboot I have around 10GB space on my drive. And then within a week I’m down to 200MB.

Creative Chaos

Just read I’ve stopped managing my email, and it reminded me that I have a lot of strange habits around computers. I never seem to find other people doing it the same way. Next to not managing my email, I also love tabs in my browser. And there is seldom a time when I have less than ten tabs open. But this thought goes a lot further; I have creative chaos in my working spaces.

They had old Macs - the memories - unfortunately only games on there and no HyperCard. But we played Glider (the one with the paper plane) on it for a bit. I’m still as bad as when I was younger.

A dynamic list of persons with Espanso

I have a simple CRM tool inside of my digital brain. And when writing notes and mentioning persons I know, I want to link to them instead of writing these links by hand each time. I’ve made simple automation for Espanso. When I type the correct trigger, it will show a list of all persons found in the person’s subfolder from within my notes folder. It will also detract the first line containing the full name and an optional nickname to format the entry correctly.

I was working on a blog post today. But it looks like it got a live of its own and I need to split it into two parts. The thoughts are just not yet coherent enough to post.

@V_ It is funny the last time I've noticed that hole there was no plant in it yet. And I wondered whether they should not fill it in as otherwise it could be the start of a bigger defect when water freezes in there. Now lets see how big the plant can grow.

I am trying to remember when I first found you, but it was some time ago. What I remember is that it was love at first sight. I found a note from 2008 where your name is mentioned for the first time, but I also knew about you before then. The earliest graffle document I have on my computer dates from 2005. After all this time, you are still my number one go-to application when I need to create a drawing.

At least I was productive. I drawn a new tile set for the tree generator. Need to tweak the allowed connections a bit. At the moment it generates some funny trees (without a root). But this is a config issue and not a problem with my wave collapse implementation.
