Books read in 2019

I had a productive đź“š reading year. And I reached the goals I’ve planned for this year. I’ve only read new books, and I’ve also managed to include some none fiction work as well.

The best book I’ve read this year was The Testaments: The Sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. As I’ve written in its review, I initially feared that this book is just a money grab, due to the TV-Show. But I’m glad I’ve read it the book was so good that I’m still thinking about it now.

The best nonfiction book for this year is Becoming by Michelle Obama. I’ve enjoyed the writing style quite a lot. I mostly enjoyed her description of her childhood and later in the book when she was describing the campaign phase. Read the full review of the book here.

The following books were also a highlight for me this year: La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One Seveneves by Neal Stephenson Practical Microservices: Build Event-Driven Architectures with Event Sourcing and CQRS by Ethan Garofolo Especially the last one which took me back to the computer and managed to re-spark my interest in software architecture.

I’ve read 60 with a total of 19929 pages in 2019. Compared to last year, I nearly doubled my book count. I think I read around 36 books in 2018, but the number is not entirely accurate. I’ve certainly felt the reading speed and the stress of continually having a next book ready. So toward the end of the year, I felt a bit of reading execution, so I solved down my reading speed quite a lot because I should not read for the numbers, just for the joy of discovering new worlds and ideas!

Some more statistics about my reading year are the following. The longest book by page count I’ve read is The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, Book 1) with a page count of 1009 and a read duration of 16 days. And the book for which I needed the most time is unsurprisingly On the Oceans of Eternity: A Novel of the Change with 19 days and only a page count of 644. But the author of this series uses a dense writing style.
