Review of Disciple of War (Art of the Adept Book 4)
I just finished reading Disciple of War (Art of the Adept Book 4) (English Edition) by Michael G. Manning.📚
The war with Darrow is looming on the horizon, and Will will be again in the middle of it.
But his first priority is to train Selene as a wizard, which unfortunately does not quite work as planned. Will’s solution is a dangerous bargain with the king.
Opinion
Please note that from here on out, the text can contain spoilers of the book.
I liked this book better than issue three. There was less fan service, and the author wrote the story tighter. I also like the main plot a lot more. You could read this book as a standalone story, I think, but you get more from it if you know the other books.
With Will being in an “official” role, there are some changes, as he should be more inclusive in his decisions. A trait he so far did not manage very well. But I think in this book, he got a bit better on this front. But in the end, he still mumbles through the fights and survives only by sheer luck.
The book introduces some new techniques and items but unfortunately does not spend much time on them. I would have loved some more exploration of the magic system here.
On the other hand, I liked that Selene not just directly managed to achieve her third compression. It was not clear for most of the book if she actually will be able to handle it.
So this was an overall solid book in a still exciting series.
