Review of New Spring: A Wheel of Time Prequel

I just finished reading New Spring: A Wheel of Time Prequel by Robert Jordan.📚

This book is a short prequel to the main series of Wheel of Time. It highlights the time before the main plot and centers on a young Moraine and Lan.

Moiraine and Siuan are two accepted in the White Tower in the time of the Aiel War. When they serve the Amyrlin Seat, they withness the Foretelling of the Rebirth of the Dragon Reborn — catapulting both of them into a big adventure.

Opinion

Please note that from here on out, the text can contain spoilers of the book.

New Spring is a relatively short book highlighting some of the backgrounds of Moraine and Siuan. It also introduces us to how Moraine has found her Warder Lan. This book is quite relaxing getting to know a younger and not yet so wise Moraine coming from the main series.

On the other side, we get to know Lan better. He is fighting in the war and is not entirely happy with his lot in life. And when getting a chance to fight the Evil, he happily signs up with Moraine.

The books’ writing style is more straightforward than the main series, and it is also quite a bit shorter. But I still liked it, just for the fact that it gives us a view behind the faces of two quite essential characters. And you learn where their motivation in the fight against the shadow is born.
