Books read in 2021

The current year was a year of changes and experiments with my reading habits ๐Ÿ“š. I read two books in parallel for the first time and listened to an entirely new book in audio format.

Reading parallel went fine. But the audiobook experiment failed. I struggle with note-taking and understanding when I only hear new concepts. I need to see the written word to take good notes. And I also work with doing nothing while listening to the book.

My plan for this year was to read less, as I overdid it a bit last year. When looking at the stats, I did well there. I also planed to read at least one nonfiction book per month. I count ten nonfiction books this year, and I’m delighted with this result.

The best books of 2021

The best book series I’ve read this year was Finishing School, starting with Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger. Followed by Airborn by Kenneth Oppel.

In the nonfiction department, I can’t decide which it is. The most change in my behavior I got from reading How to Take Smart Notes by Sรถnke Ahrens and The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did) by Philippa Perry. But there is also Several Short Sentences About Writing by Verlyn Klinkenborg and The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins.

Reading statistics

I’ve started 39 books in 2021 and finished 37 this year. One book I’m still reading and one book I’ve stopped reading. That is a first for me as well. I’ve read around 12539 pages with an average of 35 pages per day. These numbers are down a lot compared with last year. But that is fine.

The book with the longest reading time this year was The Lies of Locke Lamora, with 22 days page count of 752. And the fastest book was Etiquette and Espionage, with two days page count of 312.

I’ve also listened to some audiobooks, so I wrote 44 book reviews this year.

Plans for next year

My plans for next year are similar. I want to read between two and three books per month. And at least one of them is nonfiction. I’m still feeling a bit burnt out from reading right now. So I don’t plan too much right now.
