365 Days of writing a morning page
📝 I did it: one year of Morning Pages without a break or missing one day!
In the first Morning Page, I wrote:
A new experiment with which I wanted to start at the beginning of the week. But I’ve never found the time. Or perhaps better said, I never made the time for it. Write three pages each morning without a specific topic. Just write what’s in your head without a filter.
Writing without a filter is an important part. These entries are for me and me only. Wiring about these topics helps me find perspective. Sometimes, I could reuse part of my writing as a blog post on my home page. But there are other reasons to write these daily entries. And it is funny how I’ve started the first-morning page without making time for it for a long time :-).
It is also still a conscious decision to take the time to write them, especially in the morning when I want to do something else (code). It takes time to write 750 words. And most of the time, I don’t reach them. But I’ve also stopped looking too much at the word count. The word count is not that important!
One of the most exciting developments this year was that I started using the morning pages to write short story scenes. When I’m doing this, the morning pages tend to get longer. The first time this happened was in #71 with the start of the computer archeologist story (which still waits on editing and rewriting so I can publish it).
But there are also other notable entries, like #188, about one of my best summers, published here: I built a tree house.
So, on to the next 365 days. And how many words did I write on an average daily? Around 400.
