Thoughts about the book the new CSS layout by Rachel Andrew ๐Ÿ“š

I finished the book Book The new CSS layout by Rachel Andrew this week. And after being bumped out initially because it was so old, I was still glad to have it read. I knew most of the contention in there already, but I could glean some interesting tidbits from the book, especially with the grid layout, which I have not used much at all so far. And until now, I did not understand why you wanted to use it when you have a flexbox.

Now I know how it is used, and I think I will try to incorporate it more into my daily usage โ€“ not that Iโ€™m wiring CSS every day.

It also got me to think about using CSS directly instead of something like Tailwind. So far, I tried not to write CSS now as I always lose a lot of time, and using Tailwind felt faster. But in the end, I spend nearly the same time googling and reading the Tailwind doc as when I use CSS directly. I have the comparison right now as in my private projects, I use Tailwind, and at work, it is plain CSS (actually, it is SCSS, but details). In the end, you need to read the book and then experiment with the examples on a computer to fully understand how it works (something I have yet to do).

Example page of the book showing the type and layout. The screenshot shows page 95.

Look at this nice font! Click the image for a bigger version.

Oh, and I love the font used in the book: FF Yoga and FF Yoga Sans both by Xavier Duprรฉ.
