I like this post, and I would also like Apple as a company to do this things. But I also wonder if we should expect an entity of the capitalistic system to behave in such a way. Companies are not humans and they don’t behave like this they only need to fulfil the needs of their investors. Which usually is to increase the value of the company.
I’m conflicted about this but it does not feel right to expect a company to behave like an activist, with a moral standing. But then again where would should we as human put the levers?
In short, instead of meekly capitulating to pathetic bullies, this is a moment when Apple needed go on the attack. Instead of curling up in a defensive ball on the floor and crying while you hand out gold bricks to fascist predators, this is a time when a company full of smart and talented people should stand its ground.

I liked this episode and I need to also spend some time thinking about this.
Especially this part towards the end:
I think there’s just something in that of just the fundamental reality of we have more agency than sometimes I think, at least I can say for myself, I have more agency than sometimes I give myself credit for.
And I think the places I often find myself struggling is when I am unintentionally giving up that agency.
And in this case, it was sort of like giving some of my identity and focus to a company rather than being self-directed.
And part of that was just laziness, part of that was just it was fun and like there’s lots of things that go into that.
And I think it’s the reality of understanding that I have agency over what I think is important, but I value what I do with my time, what I look at and sort of engage in.
Why is it so hard to get the UUID of a iPad (or iPhone) under Windows? Wasted so much time with this yesterday.

The Macintosh turned 40 the day before yesterday And there are a lot of posts about your first Mac.
The first Mac I ever used was my brother’s Macintosh; I’m unsure if it was the 128 or the later 512KB version.
I think my personal first Mac was either an Macintosh II or an Macintosh IIci. Both were handle-me-downs, which I got for free.
The first one I paid my own money for was an iMac (Strawberry), which I also got secondhand for 500 CHF from a neighbor. I loved that machine as it was much better than all the other Macs I’ve used.
The first Mac I bought new was a 12-inch 2nd generation: Aluminum PowerBook.
My new computer, I finally found a good deal on the auction platform. It replaces an iMac (first gen retina Intel), so this M1 Max studio will be a huge speed improvement. And I can finally install the current software again.
Since when does the Photos app on the iPhone detect plants in images? Noticed it when looking at my photos – the “I” button in the tab bar changes to a leave and then this info is there in the details. It is cool but does not work always - had quite some which just said “Plant”.
@V_ Since last year. It’s been getting better though. I’ve been using it identify plants I like when I’m walking in my neighborhood

@pratik @V_ Yes, in all of the talk about AI and often that Apple is not doing anything in that area. Historically Apple has referred to it as machine learning and I think this is overlooked as AI. Worth noting too that Apple has dedicated neural processors in it's devices unlike most other hardware makers. In other words, on-device machine learning. It's a fantastic feature that is getting so much better. Not only does it do plants but animals of all kinds, insects, fungi, moss, lichen and on. Also, food! My photo of waffle registers and when I tap the info button I get recipes. And now also, not only does it recognize dogs and cats but it recognizes your dogs. You can tell Photos the names of animals you live with and it creates albums. Great stuff going on in this app!

I just tried my first workout on Fittness+, wow that is amazing. I’m on a free trial right now and would never have thought that I would pay for it. But right now it looks totally different.
I just used my Apple Watch to make a call. We sure are living in the future or in an alternate Nightrider universe :-D
My Apple Logo pendant. Long ago, I used to wear that. These days are long gone.
I fixed dependency hell by removing all my external dependencies. it was possible because I only had two of them and it is a hobby project.
Anyway, I still lost two days I could have used for features.
