It feels strange that I’m done with work for this year. But I’m also glad that I now have some time to spend on my own projects and regenerate my batteries so I’m ready for the next year again.

On Friday I nerd sniped my self while working. Our generated pdf for the output now has layers and a table of contents which navigates to the correct area on the page. Did we need this? No. Was it cool to implement? Yes!

I joined my teammates at the conference booth yesterday. Wow, was this exhausting. It is cool that we had so much traffic but it takes a lot of energy talking so much. I’m glad I had the opportunity to see this part of our business as well.

Question: how are you all managing your (work)-budgets? I’m using a spreadsheet right now. But I’m not sure this is the best solution.

Working from a coffee shop feels strange somehow. How many teas do I need to order per hour so I can sit here without a bad conscience?

A poster printer behind a sheet of acryl glass. On the left side is a visualisation showing a hand holding a phone with our app running – showing the primary new feature of the app. Markers which can indicate information on a plan with different properties. The left side has the title “Release Frühling 2024” and below is a list reading: NeoMarker, Mehrseitige Dokumente (MDS) and Mehrsprachigkeit (FR & IT). At the bottom left side is the company logo and our claim in German, reading: Siresca / Wir vereinfachen Elektroinstallationen (We simplify electric installations).

Sometimes you need to make your wins visible :-) This is a poster I ordered to remember our first big release. It was a big one.

Yesterday was my first release day at my new job. Everything went smoothly thanks to our planning. And now its after the release is before the release :-).

It is cool that the features I worked on since August last year are now finally available to the public.

A good post about what to do as a regular developer in a project. But the content is important no matter what you exact role is.

So here’s the opportunity that you have as a bottom-of-the-pile developer: making connections!!!
But if you come to me with a request rather than a defined task, I say that a senior digs in; asks questions; finds out more; challenges assumptions; takes steps back to look at the broader picture; and does some “systems thinking”, before knuckling down.

I usually does not take long to destroy any hope of getting it done for the release they want it :-) But it is important to have persons knowing the whole system and knowing what I going everywhere. Especially when the team is split over multiple (external) persons.

Just realised that I’ve now one month at my new job. Lots to do and lots to learn.

First week of work at the new place is behind me – loved it. I’ve dreamt about my work from yesterday. I love the energy of something new. It was a long time since I dreamt about my work last.

After nine years and six months, I had my last day at work today. Now it is time to relax a bit until I start at the new place.

Does somebody have a time machine? I need to finish 18 days of work in seven working days :-(

This day is a strange day. A lot of meetings and an unexpected bug which looks to be a death lock in our DB code :-(

I had a strange day at work today. All the issues I wanted to work on I was somehow blocked due to open questions. Luckily I found something I could work on in the end.

Finally made a template for my weekly work log. To fill out at the start of each week. It helps me keep track of my weeks and how they went.

It looks like one week on standby was too much for my work laptop. Every app is frozen and needs to be force quitted before it can make a restart – a good start of the week :-(

Two days no meetings it was so nice to dive into the code, but now I’m back in the meetings world :-(

Today went not as planned. I hope tomorrow will work out better. Definitely too many meetings today.

I definitely had not enough sleep last night. Early bed for me today. And I’m finally done with work. Now we have some order in our issue board – not perfect yet but better than before. And I can put my project manager hat into the corner tomorrow and hopefully code a bit ;-)
